Nereida Apaza Mamani

Nereida APAZA MAMANI
Born in 1979 in Arequipa, Pérou.
Lives and works in Arequipa, Peru.

Born in Peru and heiress to an Aymara and Andean tradition, Nereida Apaza Mamani deals with identity, by criticizing the dominant national narratives of Peru. With embroidery, painting, video, artist's notebooks, engraving, installation and poetry, she goes beyond the traditional techniques of visual arts and resists through gestures, which become acts in their own right. Acts of resistance against erasure, against racism, against classism, against all that they wanted her to learn to keep quiet as a woman, as a child, as an indigenous person.
